Perfect level of spiciness for these sticky Gochujang Hot Wings recipe. Make a batch for Game Day or Happy Hour.
Hot wings never go out of style. Right? Hot wings are a treat that we enjoy a couple of times per year at home. This recipe however, may make its way into all things chicken related. Thighs, breasts, wings, any and all deserve a little gochujang action.
Savoury, a slow heat, with some sweetness from honey … all good factors in dinner.
If I’m making this hot wings recipe with plans for any kids who are opposed to spicy dishes, I usually reduce the gochujang, but I don’t skip it. Gochujang adds wonderful depth to most dishes and when balanced with honey or maple syrup the spice level is mostly muted.
Gochujang is a Korean hot pepper paste. It’s my personal favourite of the Asian hot pepper pastes I’m familiar with.
If you have a hard time sourcing Gochujang, Sriracha is a fine substitute. Sriracha is a bit spicier so I’d recommend reducing the overall amount included in the recipe or increasing the amount of honey used depending on your personal preferences. I love the balance in this hot wings recipe between the spicy and sweet.
At 400°F, chicken wings should take approximately 30 minutes to cook. Chicken should always be cooked to 165° F so double check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer before bitting into one spicy, sweet, and sticky wing.
This shorter cooking time, plus the minimal prep time means this dish is a perfect appetizer for Game Day or any potluck.
Here are a few more gochujang recipes to use up that bottle of sauce:
