How to bake lamb chops is all about a fail-proof method to get juicy lamb chops! Bursting with flavours the entire family will love.
Lamb Chops are a great quick and easy protein to add to the dinner table. I turn to lamb chops at least once per month to provide an alternate protein that goes well with easy sides.
These baked lamb chops are what I make when I want a dinner my family will love and that doesn’t take eons to make.
The longer the marinade, the more flavour in the lamb, BUT, don’t that stop you from making this recipe. It’s so easy and rewarding to make that it’s worth the two minutes to prep the marinade. The entire recipe (marinade included) is 5 ingredients. That’s correct five.
The entire cooking process is less than 20 minutes which means a brief tango with some marinade and these chops on be on the table in under 40 minutes. Not too shabby for a hearty protein.
Can you cook lamb chops in the oven?
You betcha! They do need a quick sear on the stove top to start with to lock in all the juices and any flavours from marinading that may have been done. The pan that the lamb is seared in goes from stove to oven so there’s no extra dishes floating around either. One recipe, one pan. Just the way I like it.
Finishing the cooking process in the oven is a great way to have a hands off protein all cooked up quickly and without much attention. This How to Bake Lamb Chops is a great recipe to add to your repertoire for busy weeknight meals.
Best side dishes for lamb?
- For our family with small (preschool aged) children, couscous and a simple salad go a long way with lamb.
- Potatoes are always brilliant with lamb and these Crispy Salt and Vinegar Potatoes are such fun and hit with kids and adults alike.
- Polenta is one of my favourite sides to go with lamb. Polenta Fries are a great way to introduce polenta to littles, although this Polenta is never far from my mind.
- Other sides dishes that pair well with lamb include: roasted carrots, lemon potatoes, minty peas, rice, and orzo pasta dishes. Oregano and mint are BFFs with lamb so don’t be shy about adding some great flavour to any recipe you team up with these chops.
How to bake juicy lamb chops!

-
Preheat oven to 400° F .
-
Place pan in oven for 8-10 minutes (or until chops are 140° F in the thickest part).

This recipe turned out fantastic. It was fresh and from beginning to end easy to prepare. I kept the marinade going for about four hours, which I recommend. This is a winner.

I used this recipe last night for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. It was a HUGE hit. I have a lemon tree so I had a fresh picked lemon and fresh oregano from my herb garden. I only marinated them about 3 hours. I paired them with bacon wrapped asparagus and a almond rice pilaf.
I was told I can make these again anytime!!!
Samantha
Your meal sounds amazing!! When can I pop over? 😉 And having your own lemon tree sounds like a dream come true!

I don’t eat lamb, but made this for my husband … he LOVED the flavour. I added fresh thyme and fresh rosemary and marinade overnight.
Samantha
Yay! That’s a great idea to add some herbs to the marinade. Thanks for the note.

Clean eating! Delicious! The whole family loves these. The only recipe I will ever use for lamb chops. I often don’t have fresh lemons on hand, so use about 3 tsp of lemon juice. We like garlic whipped potatoes on the side drizzled with the delicious pan drippings. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!
Samantha
Oh those whipped potatoes sound so good with these baked lamb chops! Great idea!So glad you enjoyed the recipe.

Fixing this for my sister tonight. She has never had lamb!!! I am so excited for her to try it. I will let you know what she says!!!
Samantha

Absolutely awesome!!
I followed it almost exactly, I was out of fresh lemons, so used 2 1/2 teaspoons of lemon juice. The chops were 1 1/4 inch thick so 9 min in the oven was perfect.
Thanks for the recipe!
Samantha
Pleasure! Glad you found the perfect timing!
Allan
I hope I’m understanding this right. You don’t use the marinade when you brown them in the skillet correct?
Can’t wait to have it! Yum
Samantha
Correct. The marinade can be discarded.
Rosalina Villarruel
All hail, lamb! The most underrated of the meats 🙂

This was my first time making lamb chops and I decided to go with this recipe bc it seemed so easy. It is just that! I didn’t have a oven friendly skillet but put the chops right back in the steel pan I let them marinate in after I pan fried them in a deep skillet! They came out great!
Samantha
I’m so happy you loved the recipe. It is deceivingly easy, but doesn’t skimp on flavour. And good idea with the pans!
Judy
It was the first time I’ve cooked lamb chops, didn’t have a clue what to do. I followed your recipe to the tee. This was the ‘bomb’! OMG these were the best. The flavours were excellent together. I added freshly sliced lemon. It was a hit. Recipe rating should have been 25. Off the charts! Thankyou for being there ❤️
Samantha
Hurrah! Happy to hear these lamb chops were so good. I’m going to try the fresh sliced lemon next time I make them too 🙂

Fantastic oven recipe! Easy, tasty and came out Great! I didn’t have a bevy oven proof skillet. I chose to use the sauté function on my Istapot to Sear the chops. Mine were 1/2 inch thick. Then transferred them to a roasting pan. 400 degrees 4 min each side. They were PERFECT!!! (Marinade was right on and only did it for 20
Minutes) Thank You
Samantha
That’s great that they seared up nicely in the IP and came out of the oven on point. Thanks for letting us so that those that don’t have an oven proof skillet like you have other options.
M

Samantha
So happy to hear this!

Should the chops be placed in the refrigerator to marinate?
Samantha
If marinating for over 20 minutes then yes, they should be kept chilled. I’ve added a note to the recipe card as well.
John
I loosely followed the instructions and the recipe, and my wife and son were both wowed by the flavor. Very simple instructions to follow. Thank you.
