Pomegranate Lime Gimlet Recipe

November 12, 2020 by Samantha 14 Comments

A gimlet is a simple, yet refreshing cocktail. Made with minimal ingredients, this Pomegranate Lime Gimlet recipe is perfect for the holidays or as a Winter cocktail.

Pomegranate and Lime Gimlet | My Kitchen Love

I’ve been told many times that I’m an old soul. I’m unsure if this is something that is just me; not learned or anything, just always there, or if I’ve slowly acquired a taste for things that perhaps make me appear older than I am.

Take cocktails for example, gin which most people associate with an older demographic is by far my favourite. And this Gimlet recipe throwback to the 1920’s is definitely a new favourite. The fact that its colours are perfect for the holidays is a wonderful coincidence that makes me happy.

Pomegranate and Lime Gimlet | My Kitchen Love

I’m more into wine these days so I actually had to do some research on what this cocktail would be labeled once I developed the recipe; the obvious choice was a gimlet.

Gin, lime juice or cordial and soda. Simple, clean, and yet one killer cocktail in the taste department. I love that there’s no syrup involved making the tastes clean, straightforward and not overly sweet. Truly perfect for a happy hour or a cocktail before supper arrives at the table. I’ve served them as a Christmas cocktail for those who also enjoy gin.

Obviously my kids didn’t drink this. That being said, they loved eating the lime slices and pomegranate seeds with glee. And I loved having a festive cocktail to enjoy during the witching hour at our house 😉

I know that this  gimlet recipe is going to make an appearance at our annual holiday open house (when we’re able to host crowds again), but I also have 1-2 more very festive cocktails up my sleeve to share with you (the total number will depend upon how successful I am with recipe development – lol real life here guys).

What’s your favourite cocktail for the holidays?

Pomegranate and Lime Gimlet | My Kitchen Love

A gimlet cocktail is best mixed with a dry London gin. There are lots of dry London gins around and the labels on gin bottles clearly state if they are indeed a dry London gin.

And while a gimlet looks like a martini, the absences of vermouth is what pushes this drink into the gimlet recipe category.

A traditional gimlet cocktail is made with a mix of gin and lime cordial, packed with lots of ice. Here I’ve added a touch of soda to ease up on the intensity of the gin, but it can be skipped if desired.

Likewise with the lime juice, a great substitution would be lime cordial.

Ooh! My husband and I actually host an annual Festivus party because, why not? We typically buy a keg (or two) but maybe this year we should class it up a bit. What type of gin do you like to serve with this cocktail? I am partial to Boodles or Sipsmith and would be eager to hear about your go-to!

Fun party idea! We do a party too, an open house where we do bagels and bubbles with everyone bringing a bottle of bubbles to share. Such good festive fun. I am totally partial to Boodles. It's the only gin I buy now. I'd love to get some higher end stuff one day ... when my bank account can handle it ;)

LOL. Totally. My kids are addicted to them and since they're on sale currently I basically am spending my life taking the seeds out of them.

I love a good whiskey sour any time of year, but for the holidays I really enjoy making an old-fashioned bowl of punch or mulled wine. Our idea of Christmas is Victorian and theirs was Medieval, so it's all well-themed, right? Your gimlet would be so pretty on a holiday table and it sounds delicious.

ohhh, good choice Teresa! I've been eyeing a punch bowl at the thrift store, but I feel as though our cabinets can only hold so much. It's very festive however to have a punch bowl so I just might have to do it. Hope you had a lovely weekend!

Beautiful drink - and I'm totally with you on the old soul beverages. I'm a scotch and gin kind of guy (not together, mind you). There's a lot of character in those old prohibition era classics too, and I'm personally a big fan of drinks that play on the flavours of the basic ingredients without drowning everything in syrup or overly fruity booze. Great stuff Samantha. As for me - I don't really have a favourite holiday drink! But I'm trying to develop a couple of recipes... so stay tuned! :D

Thanks Sean! Totally agree about the syrupy stuff; sometimes it's a bit too much. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
