Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp black cocoa* (or sub with regular cocoa)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 12 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cups Halloween candy**
  • 40 mini candy eyeballs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F and line 2-3 baking sheets with non-stick paper

  2. In a large bowl stir together together flour, baking powder, brown sugar, black cocoa, cocoa, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Once batter is mostly mixed add Halloween candy (reserving the candy eyeballs)

  3. Place batter in scoops onto baking trays. I used a small ice cream scoop to ensure they were the same size, it's about 3 level tablespoons.

  4. Bake for 10-12. Once removed from oven, carefully apply the candy eyeballs to the hot cookies (so they set into them).

  5. Allow to cool on baking sheets for 10-15 minutes before fully cooling on a rack.

Recipe Notes

black cocoa powder gives these Halloween cookies a darker shade a little bit more of an intense chocolate flavour. It is by no means necessary and can easily be substituted with regular cocoa powder

** I used Smarties (a Canadian candy brand) and the single coloured Smarties for this recipe. I would use whatever you might have on hand that works well.
