Butterscotch Marshmallow Squares are a quick and easy no-bake festive treat! Made in under 15 minutes! We love making these Butterscotch Marshmallow Confetti Squares every holiday season to kick-off our holiday baking.

This was fun. I got to collaborate with some fabulous Canadian Food Bloggers that I respect and enjoy following, and I also got to create the single Christmas treat that I completely adored, and found highly addictive, when I was a small girl.
Today’s post is all about my personal Christmas Treat Tradition. For me there was only 1 (that’s correct, one) treat that I looked forward to, Butterscotch Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares.
In its original format called “Butterscotch Confetti Squares”, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy or use techni-coloured marshmallows the first few times I made them (sorry Grandma).
Now, with younger kids of my own, I folded and have been using the bright and fun “rainbow” marshmallows my kiddos adore.

These squares made their way from the far side of the Prairies to reach me on the West Coast. My Great-Grandma in Winnipeg, Manitoba, would post a shoebox filled with various Christmas goodies from Shortbread Cookies to Butter Tarts along with our standard Christmas gifts of slippers.
She always bought the best slippers and to this day I still wear slippers, even in the summer months. Old soul at heart.
Sensibly, I would become visibly distraught if this package had not arrived by the 23rd of December. There was only one year where the package was late and I promptly called Grandma to make sure she was ok before fretting about my missing treat.

The combination of butterscotch chips, creamy peanut butter, and marshmallows is truly a brilliant one.
My Grandma stopped sending the shoebox many years ago, but my taste buds eagerly dug into these Butterscotch Marshmallow Confetti Squares with sheer delight and adoration.
My one wish was that I could call my Great-Grandmother and tell her how I recreated this special treat so many years later with her in my memories.

Christmas is such a special time of year, high lighted and saturated with special moments. Moments that can come rushing back to you with the taste of a simple treat.
These Butterscotch Marshmallow Confetti Squares have very few ingredients, aren’t baked at all, and take a whooping 15 minutes to put together.
But in my heart they’re the package from across the country that showed my Great-Grandma’s love.

Other festive baking needs? I’d definitely urge you to consider these Eggnog Madeleines or these Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Cookies.
Do you have a favourite sentimental Christmas treat? I’d love to hear about it.

Cute Christmas Appetizer – Christmas Tree Veggie Tray
I never experienced a stuffed shoebox full of treats until I met my ex—holy moly grandmothers can bake up a storm. Those look effing fantastic. I only rekindled my love for marshmallows when I found a place that sold fresh vegan marshmallows, because the place I got them from before would always have stale ones that had been sitting for ages and would clump together into a ball of sadness.
These look fantastic, I wouldn’t have thought to dunk these badboys in chocolate. You have opemed my eeeyyees!!
Fresh vegan marshmallows! Score! These are great. I had sort of forgotten about them and couldn’t figure out what they were for the longest time, but I’m happy I’ve figured it out.
Hi. How much butter und peanutbutter in Gramms? Sounds so much butter. In Germany one piece of butter is 250g. Greetings!!
Hi, it would be about 56.7 grams of butter and 190 grams of peanut butter. Happy Holidays!
I look up measurements on google. I am in Canada so we are metric .
Yummy! These bars look so delicious and I love the history behind them 🙂
Thanks Mel!
Oh my gosh, Sam! I think my family makes these as well! As soon as you mentioned techni-coloured marshmallows and butterscotch, I knew they had to be the same ones! That is such a sweet story about your great-grandmother. How kind of her to send you such a delicious box of goodies! Thank you so much for being a part of this collab! Happy holidays to you and your family!
Crazy! I was wondering if I veered to far away from the techni-coloured marshmallows for anyone to recognize this recipe still … Thank you so much for having apart of your group! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Scrumptious! Pinned it ♡♡
You’re the sweetest! Also, is there a macaron with butterscotch and marshmallows? 😉
Hi! How do you store them?
I keep them in a tin or Tupperware. When I was a kid my great grandma sent them in a shoebox and they remained there till we ate them all 🙂
That was such a sweet story Samantha! Thanks for sharing and I love that this is so quick and easy to make!
Oh me too Charlene! I have 3 kids under 2.5 yrs of age and am in need of quick and delicious recipes!
These look so fun- I can see myself making them with my nephew! 🙂
Awww! I’m glad. Yes, it would be a good in the kitchen recipe for kids! Can’t wait to read your post … I’m very behind :/
Thank you! I find the photography side quite challenging so I’m blushing at your comment. Thanks so much for commenting and letting me know!
I must say, you’ve done a fabulous job of making these look perfectly delicious! I’m coming over! haha. Might have to try these over the holidays :D.
You’re always welcome here! 🙂 They’re dangerous … highly addictive.
Truthfully I didn’t know what was in them. I thought it was just peanut butter and marshmallows until I did some research. The butterscotch is required to make this work. And I’m very pleased I added the chocolate … shocker huh?;)
How long do these keep in the refrigerator?
They can conservatively last 7 days in the fridge (in an airtight container).
I made these and they are so delicious! Thanks!
Can you freeze these?
I have never tried to freeze them myself. I don’t see why there would be an issue however. If you do, please let us know how it works out!!
So I might have messed mine up because I looked up 3/4 peanut butter in grams and it said 96g and that’s what I did. My mixture came out very thick so I’ll have to try it again with more peanut butter 🙁
Hi there, the unit conversion is showing 190 grams for the 3/4 cup of PB. Hopefully you get the chance to try the recipe again, it’s so good!
I’m wondering if can use peanut butter chipetts in place of butter scotch as those ones are sold out every where. Thank you
Shoot, inventory shortages are real!! It won’t taste the same to be honest, but I’m sure it won’t be gross either. I’d give it a try and see. Or try dark chocolate chips for a chocolatey / PB / Marshmallow scene. Let me know what you decide to go with.
I love these squares, especially for the holiday season. They always make our baking list. Thanks for the recipe share! Excited to make these again!
I am a fan of making a no-bake, and easy recipe, and this one is the best.
I made this and everyone loves it!
Wow! This treat looks incredibly yummy! Peanut butter plus marshmallow is definitely a great pair! Kids will surely love this!
They sure do!
The marshmallows and butterscotch were a great contrast in texture! Had too many marshmallows which I bought for hot chocolate and this recipe was a terrific way to use them up- gave them all out as Christmas gifts!
Great idea! A perfect festive gift.
My family loves these , and expect them every Christmas. Thank you for sharing this yummy-ness!
My pleasure! My family has enjoyed them for 3 generations now so I can see why your family loves them so much.
My mom made these every Christmas. She made a few batches , rolled them into logs and froze them.so if she expected company they thawed quickly for guests.
I love this idea! I’m going to try it as well.
I forgot, she also rolled them in graham cracker crumbs. Made them less sticky to eat 🙂
