Mocha Momma Bites can be made in less than 15 minutes, have 5 ingredients, are good for you, vegan, and most importantly, are freaking delicious. Make this easy energy bites recipe today!

Mocha Momma Bite | My Kitchen Love

I’ve had way too many days lately where I’m completely hangry. It hits when I go to pick up the twins from preschool, or when it is the middle of the afternoon, I’m trying to get Baby Lucy up from her nap and the everyone out the door to an activity. No body is happy, let alone me.

I’ve been relying on $4 coffees way too much (for my health and my bank account). I had to come up with a way that I could take healthy snacks on the go with me that still feel like a treat. I can’t afford the money or the time to stop for a green protein smoothie with 3 kids. Talk about impossible.

Momma Bites make the most sense. I can stash them in the freezer for when I need them. To be frank though. I’d be shocked if they even make it into the freezer. Highly addictive, convenient beyond belief, and so tasty.

Mocha Momma Bite | My Kitchen Love These bites hit all the right notes. A hit of caffeine for those sluggish days, a boost of protein and fibre from the oats, dates to sweeten and replenish magnesium post workout (I take Lucy with me during the week to my workouts), chia seeds for more feel good nutrition, and chocolate to make it feel like a treat.

Mocha Momma Bite | My Kitchen Love

The fact that these energy bites are no-bake and basically made in 5 minutes (15 minutes if you include chilling time) make me regret not making them sooner.

I now have zero excuses for not taking my snacks with me. Or for being hangry. Sometimes keeping things simple is best. Like 5 ingredient no-bake simple.

Mocha Momma Bite | My Kitchen Love

I made these nut-free because I often have to snack when I’m picking my kids up from preschool and they have a strict nut-free zone at our preschool. There’s no wrath like the wrath of a preschool teacher!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup pitted dates
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup mini semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (I use mini vegan chocolate chips, they taste less sweet to me)
  • 2 tbsp ground coffee beans or 2 tsp instant espresso
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
US Customary - Metric
Instructions
  1. Place dates in a food processor and blend until a paste forms.

  2. Place date paste, oats, chocolate chipes, coffee, and chia seeds in a medium bowl. Mix by hand until all ingredients are well blended. Place bowl in refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to make mixture easier to handle.

  3. Roll mixture into 9-11 balls. I found using 2 tablespoons of mixture made the right size of bite for my preference.

  4. Refrigerate for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3-4 months.

Thanks so much! I’m very addicted, but they’re way better for me and my bank account than pricey coffee ๐Ÿ™‚

Can I put the dates in a blender? Or will they blend too much? My food processorโ€‹takes forever to put together ?
    Thank you recipe sounds delish!!

Great question! I would think the blender would work as the dates are basically pureed anyways. You’re looking for a paste like texture. Hope it works out for you!

The struggle is real with sugar! I’m on the same page. These bites are definitely a great compromise.

My mixture is really crumbly, any suggestions on what to add to help them form into a ball? Thansk

Hi Chris! That’s odd. The dates should work. As noted in the recipe, I often park the mixture in the fridge for 10-15 minutes before rolling to make rolling easier. If the dates just aren’t working a nut or seed butter should help. Even a tablespoon or two. Let me know if that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

Soak the dates in boiling hot water, then drain before blending… use a bit of the hot water… tbsp or so Add it to the dates

I cannot tell you how much I love these as my midday snack! Making my 3rd batch and changing it up a little by adding nuts, flax seeds, etc.

Hi Angela, I’m not too sure how the dates would get chopped up enough without the food processor. Maybe put them in a high power blender first to see if they chop enough to mix up.

Jus ttried making them and couldn’t get a paste texture. obviously it pulverized them but they kept rolling into a ball form in the processor. any suggestions. im trying to mix the rest of the ingredients into it now and im just making a mess and getting irritated. haha wanted to love the idea of these! need help acheiving your paste texture.
just bought a brand new high end processor so i doubt its my appliance ๐Ÿ™

Maybe take the ball out and cut it up into smaller chunks, return spaced out in the food processor, and then pulse again? I’d be frustrated too, although I don’t know why it would work for me (and my not so fancy appliance) and not you. I love these energy bites! They freeze so well and are a great pick me up. Hopefully this helps.
