This Blood Orange Gin & Tonic is a refreshing and seasonal spin on a classic G&T! This gin and tonic recipe is bright and naturally pretty thanks to blood orange juice.

Best part of any holiday? The cocktails. You can get away with fun unique cocktails … And usually you can throw a couple in at brunch without too many people frowning.

Regardless, happy hour is amped up with this Blood Orange Gin and Tonic recipe!

It’s a great as a standalone drink (those nights where you need a quick night cap) or make multiple in a pitcher to share with friends.

This was a good time to make. Ok and to drink 😉 Blood oranges have a short season and I’d love to use them as much as possible when they’re here. I eat them for dessert when I have a few spare around.

Blood oranges have a deep pink colour that is so vibrant and pretty, not to shortchange their citrus flavour that is like a hit of sunshine we Canadians are desperately missing this time of year.

Gin and Tonic Variations / Substitutions:

  • If you aren’t into gin, take out the gin and tonic and use bubbles! A perfectly respectable mimosa.
  • Swap the gin and tonic for vodka and soda for a spin on that classic drink as well.
  • Blood Oranges not in season? Meyer Lemon juice, regular orange juice and even pomegranate juice would be delightful here.
  • This would look amazing if blood orange ice cubes were made. That requires planning ahead.
  • I love the look and flavour of the mint spring added here but a slice of lime would also be a nice complimenting flavour.

More seasonal cocktails?

I love this Blood Orange Mimosa that is truly dreamy for brunches and this Meyer Lemon and Rosemary Cocktail is a personal favourite!

All we need is Friday to arrive so we can make a round – or two 😉 of these Blood Orange Gin and Tonics. They’re a wonderful Gin and Tonic variation. They’re such a great way to put a spin on a classic and brighten up any gathering.

What’s your favourite happy hour cocktail? We vary around here depending on the time of year, but Gin and Tonic is often how we start.
